YOU ASKED … ? ? ?

?~  Can you help me get in touch with Ralph "Butch" Craig I think Class of '64? I have one of his high school annuals. Thanks,

~ Skip Porterfield, Class of '63

A~ Hey Skip - he is not signed up with Albany High Times - but will put your request in November News & Clues!

?~  Am trying to find Mary Knight (’61), last pictured in1960 annual. We both got married and moved away.  I don't know her married name or where she is now. I attended the 1961 reunion with former classmates. Mary was also in that class. THANKS

?~  What is the address to Radium Springs so that I can plug it into my navigation.  I will be attending a wedding there. And as far as I can tell there is no address listed on the website. Thank You

~ Wendy Smith

A~ I find it hard to believe that Radium makes their address very hard to find … but I could go there blind-folded!  But Wendy found our website through a search engine, and I spent a good deal of time trying to help her to no avail.  So my husband made a map for her and sent this note: The GPS coordinates appear to be 31.526495 degrees Latitude, and -84.135704 degrees Longitude.

You can use this link to find these points:

Wendy’s response: Thank You. I am sure this will help get me there. And from the pictures I have seen, I am sure it will be a beautiful wedding.

And yes, very weird that there is no address anywhere.

~ Wendy

?~  I am wondering if the copies of the Albany Herald from 1959 regarding the AHS state championship would be of interest to put on the website? I had them scanned and digitized and have attached one for you to look at. Just let me know if you think you could use them. Regards,

~ Patti Bishop Savelle ('60)

A~ Patti the pictures are publishing terribly - I am going to pull them for now and try to figure out some other way - but it was not something you or I would want to represent that wonderful time of your lives.

?~  Any way to marry up one of my favorite photos with my VN squib re actress Martha Raye?

~ Jon Crawford ('54)

A~ Absolutely!  Here is the link to your webpage Jon Crawford, Vietnam War Stories.  I think lots of folks will remember Martha Raye - a great comedian actress and who gave her time tirelessly for the troops.  Thanks Jon for your service!!

?~  What are the letters needed to activate the Search Engine block?

~ Robert Gotsch ('53)

A~ Try words instead of letters.

?~  My sister, Judith Faye Anderson Abel, was a graduate of 1960 class, and we are working together to try and and locate another class member Alana Barksdale Fraser (or Frazier). Alana married Delacey (or Delacy) Fraser (or Fazier).

Would someone be kind enough to put in your available sources in hopes that another class member might be able to help us? Thank you,

~ Barbara Anderson Robinson (’61)

Precious Memories and a Few Others

Volumes I and II

By William Grayson Peters - Class of 1950

Grayson, born in 1933, leads you through his experiences growing up around a country store, gas station and grist mill on the east side of Albany, and attending Georgia Military College and West Point.

He then takes you along as he serves in the Infantry and Military Police Corps in West Germany, West Berlin, Korea, Vietnam and stateside posts.

After retiring from the Army his story includes working in criminal intelligence in Arizona and training Saudi Arabian National Guardsmen.

Thank you for offering to include my books, Precious Memories and a Few Others, Volumes I & II, on the list of AHS authors.

Also express my appreciation to Martha LeSueur Nicholson ('56) for passing on the information about my books. I would be happy to mail both volumes for $30.00 to anyone who is interested. Contact me at wgp55@msn.com. They are also available at the Albany Visitor Center for $32.00.

Many more thanks for the tremendous service that you provide to all of us Indians by publishing Albany High Times.

For the many gifts of "connections", written or unspoken, from over 2,000 very special Albany Indians -

... I Give THANKS!!!

Kay Huston Hind (’47)

A video of the groundbreaking and more details about the new center can be seen at: Albany Herald | Ground broken on future SOWEGA senior center

Ground was broken on October 18, 2012 to begin building a new, $8 million, state of the art Senior Center for Dougherty and surrounding counties. Kay Huston Hind (’47), Executive Director of Sowega Council on Aging, was there watching her 20 year long dream begin to materialize.  A number of local officials and U. S. Representative Sanford Bishop, joined Kay at the site for the ceremony. “I’m obviously very happy about it”, said Kay. “This is going to give senior citizens a place to come in and enjoy all kinds of social events. We are real proud of it, and I am excited about the effort”.

The new center, which will be known as the Senior Life Enrichment Center, is at the site of the former Byne Memorial Baptist Church at 335 W. Society Ave. It will allow the Sowega Council on Aging to provide a broad scope of life-enhancing programs to those aged 50 and older in the area. The vision for the facility — which will house all of the services the council offers in Dougherty County — is to be a vibrant place where senior adults can come to socialize with friends, enjoy a meal, and exercise their bodies and minds through fitness and educational programs.

Kay is hopeful that a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new center will take place around Christmas 2013. The facilities there will include a commercial kitchen, a large dining room, fitness facility, computer lab, educational classrooms, social activity rooms and a craft room — and will serve as a hub for all the agency’s offices. There are 14 counties under the council’s umbrella.

~ CLUES!!! ~

***  Please remember that the albanyhightimes@aol.com mailbox is for:

1.  Albany High School news and information ONLY!  One exception though ... uplifting "clues" ... come cute videos, etc.  Please honor this.

2.  Also, PLEASE don't send Albany High Times website information, etc. to my personal email address - it is on a different computer and makes more work because I have to turn around and forward.  And I have been known to forget!

CONSIDER THIS: One of the things we try to do is to send obituaries of deceased classmate to the class of his or her class.  If no class is noted in the obituary, we sometimes make a guess by the birth year; but then sometimes, AHS is not even mentioned.

I hope each of you will give thought to letting your loved ones know you would like AHS and your class year included in the nice things they will say about you someday!  And you might want to go one step further and write it down for them.

Just a suggestion, and perhaps a clue you had not thought about.

*** Any information or requests must be sent to albanyhightimes@aol.com.

Tribe Notes …

*** I first want to thank you for the awesome job you do with "New and Clues". It must be daunting as well as time consuming. We are all so grateful!

Would you please add our info to the list of upcoming reunions?

~ Amy Robertson Beaver, Class of 1968

*** Want to thank "News and Clues" readers for the suggestions to locate the newspaper clip I needed.  I have it now and appreciate the cooperation. You all are great!

~ Jay Beck, Class of 1962

*** Thanks so much for 2nd novel plug in AHS Times.

~ Henry Duggan ('59)

*** There is another Indian author ... Grayson Peters, Class of 1950.  He told us about his 2nd volume book the last Blackbeard's Gathering.  It's about his life, and much of it about Albany High.  Also, we were happy to see Frank Orgel (’56) and Bridges Simmons (‘50)!

~ Martha LeSueur Nicholson (’56)

*** The Class of 1982 needs to add Ruth Mason and Patricia Moore to their deceased list.

~ Karen Fenton (’82)

*** I want to change my email address where I receive the AHT. Thank you.

~Betty (Marino) Cole (’56)

*** We have moved.  Please change our email address.

~ J. E. Tom (’48) and Shirley Neldon (’49) Sawyer

*** I am so sorry that I have not checked the deceased members of the Class of 1948 lately, but upon checking I have these additional members we have lost. I will try to do better in the future. I try to mark in our annual so I hope these are correct.

Imanelle Beasley

Tommy Bushnell

Willie J. Cain

Oscar Cheatham

Grace Page Cheatham

Betty Jean Melton

Donald Pye

Ben “Benny” Rouse

Robert Lee "Bobby" Ruffin, Jr.

~ Carlene Newell Flowers (’48)

*** Just in case you follow someone’s suggestion to list the currently living AHS Indians, I need to add all of the Jones Tribe not listed in the Obits.

Daisy Jones Joiner '38,

Mary Beth Jones Strange '41,

Anna Jones Bruton'43,

Hulda Jones Vallotton, '46,

Thomas B. Jones, Jr. '49.

Their class dates are as accurate as I can get them without having possession of all their annuals. Please
add them to appropriate class list. Thank you for all your hard work and kindness to us all,

~ Ducky Jones ('53)

*** Please add Susan Lee-O'Bryan to the deceased list for the Class of 1962. Thanks.
~ Charles Gillespie (’62)

*** I recently read in The Mercerian of the passing of Barbara Burke Chafing, Class of 1947.

~ Bill Huggins (’47)

Unofficial Keeper of the Roster

*** You probably remember Don Braswell (’55). We used to call him Daddy Bras! See if he remembers that! He was a big guy on the football team, but in the basement of our junior high school, the football coach, Bernie Reed, gave him a few smaks with the paddle for talking in home room! Tell him I remember it all like yesterday! He was always very nice to me even though I was an odd-ball and not a southerner. He came to my defense several times and defended me for whatever. I remember he used to ride his motor bike to school, and the time he took me for a ride. He was really a gentle giant. If you see him or talk with him, be sure and tell him he is in my thoughts and prayers! Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving.

~ Bill Wilson (’55)

NOTE:  I will!

*** I believe Ricky E. Eidson is Class of 1981. Thx,

~ Joe Hall (’82)

*** We look forward to getting the news about everyone. Will be looking you up in our Annuals.

Anyone that was not a teenager during our time will never know how great those times were. Thank God we have those memories, the best of the best. Good to hear from you and thanks for doing what you do!

~ Betty Jo Wilson McDonald Taylor (’58)

Julia asked to be put on your email list.
